10/20/2008 Anthony Dutra

Congratulations to Anthony Dutra, one of our U15 Rams, who has earn himself a starting position as a center back for Toll Gate's Varsity soccer team.  Anthony's hard work and skill has given him many opportunities on his team that most underclassmen hope for.  Not only has Anthony been finding himself as the regular starting center back  for his Varsity team, but he has also been called upon by his coach and teammates to be a primary freekick taker.  Congrats to Anthony and all of his hard work.

Sweepers don’t score many goals, but Chariho’s Gaelen Oliver netted one Thursday and it helped the Chargers cement a Division I crossover victory.

Chariho was clinging to a 1-0 lead when Oliver scored, assisted by Ryan Gilman with 14 minutes left in the game.

“Oliver won possession at midfield, continuted to dribble through, made a wall pass and got it back, switched fields to Gilman, who crossed it back into the middle to Oliver, who kept his run going and scored from just inside the 18,” Chariho coach Mike Shiels said.

“It was a good bang-bang play by both guys.”

Junior Alex Prevey scored Chariho’s first goal and the first of his career seven minutes into the game.  The Chargers had the ball on a restart and Shea Kelley hit a cross to the far post. Prevey headed the ball and when it came back to him he kicked it in, Shiels said.

Hendricken (5-4-2, 5-4-2 Division I-Central) had 13 shots, three more than Chariho but couldn’t find the net.  Brad Borsay made seven saves for the Chargers, who are now 7-2-3 overall, 6-2-3 in Division I-South. Chariho is tied for second place in the four-team division, three points behind North Kingstown.

Chariho will try to win the first Chariho Sports Boosters Invitational Soccer Tournament when it hosts Westerly in the boys’ finals Saturday at 6 p.m.

10/6/2008 Michael Casey

Congratulations to Michael Casey and the St Georges Boys Soccer Team in Newport, RI for their impressive start to their high school season (5-1-0).  In the latest match for St Georges against a strong Belmont Hill program, Michael’s technical play as a center midfielder has been the glue that holds the St Georges team together this year.  Michael got the assist on the first goal of the match that ended with a 2-1 victory for St Georges.
